Every SEO company in Orlando says the same four things: proven results, custom strategy, transparent reporting, dedicated account manager. None of it is checkable, so it tells you nothing. Judge them on things you can verify instead.
Here is the filter, in the order it saves you the most time.

1. Check whether they rank for anything themselves
Search their own service terms. An Orlando SEO company that does not appear for “SEO company Orlando” is not automatically bad — that term is brutally competitive and some good shops spend their effort on client work. But they should rank for something. If their own site is invisible for every term in their own city, ask why and listen to the answer.
2. Ask for three clients in your price range, not their best case
Every agency has one flagship result. You want the median. Ask for three current clients paying roughly what you would pay, then look those businesses up yourself in the map pack and organic results.
3. Demand a link report from a real client
Names redacted is fine. You want to see live URLs. Anyone building real links has these files sitting on their desktop. Anyone who does not will change the subject to “quality over quantity,” which is a true statement used here as a dodge.
4. Ask what happens in the first thirty days
A real answer sounds like: audit the profile, fix the primary category, standardize name and address, repair the four indexation errors on your site, publish the first service page, and start the review campaign. A weak answer sounds like: we begin with a deep dive into your business goals.
5. Find out who does the work
There is nothing wrong with an agency using contractors. There is something wrong with not telling you. Ask directly whether content is written in-house, whether links are placed by a vendor, and who you speak to when something breaks.
6. Check the contract length and the exit
- Twelve-month lock-ins with no performance clause favor the agency only
- Ninety days then month-to-month is fair to both sides
- You should own the domain, hosting, website files, Analytics, Search Console, and every page written for you
- Ask what they hand over on the last day — get it in writing
7. Watch for the guarantee
Any guarantee of a specific ranking position is a disqualifier. Google prohibits it, and the only way to fake it is to guarantee rankings for phrases nobody searches. “Guaranteed first page” for a term with four monthly searches is technically true and completely worthless.
Questions worth asking on the call
- What is our biggest problem right now, and how did you determine that?
- How many hours a month does this retainer buy?
- How many pages and how many links per month?
- How will we measure success in ninety days?
- What would make you tell us to stop spending money on SEO?
That last question is the most revealing one on the list. An honest shop will tell you the conditions under which SEO is the wrong channel for you. A sales operation will insist it always works.
Green flags
- They ask about your average job value and close rate before quoting
- They tell you something is wrong with your business model or your intake process
- They talk about calls and booked jobs rather than rankings
- They give you a specific, boring, concrete plan for month one
- They are willing to start small and prove it
Red flags
- A quote before they have looked at your site or profile
- Pressure to sign today for a discount that expires
- Reporting that shows only rankings and traffic, never leads
- No named person responsible for your account
- Unwillingness to explain what they will actually do this month
Choosing well is mostly about refusing to be impressed. The agencies that grow steadily are the ones that answer boring questions clearly.
