You expand your ranking radius by building prominence, not by creating more Google Business Profiles. One profile with a service area, plus genuinely local pages, plus local links and reviews from those cities. That is the whole method.
The shortcut everyone tries — a profile per city, or fifteen templated city pages — is exactly what gets listings suspended and pages filtered.

Why proximity limits you
Google shows businesses near the searcher. Out of the box, you rank strongly within a few miles of your address and fade beyond it. To appear further out, you have to be prominent enough to beat businesses that are physically closer. That is earned, not configured.
What actually extends your radius
1. Service areas on your profile
Set them to cities and counties you genuinely serve, up to twenty. This does not grant rankings on its own but it makes you eligible.
2. Real city pages
One page per city that matters commercially, containing things only someone who works there would write:
- Named neighbourhoods and subdivisions
- Local conditions — soil, water, salt air, build eras, HOA rules
- Permit and inspection specifics for that municipality
- Photos from jobs you completed there
- Reviews from customers in that city, quoted
- Response time and drive time from your base
3. Local links from each city
This is the strongest and least-used lever. A link from a Winter Park organization tells Google you belong in Winter Park in a way no on-page text can.
- Chambers of commerce in each city
- Community sponsorships in those cities
- Local news mentions
- Neighbourhood associations and HOAs
4. Reviews that name places
You cannot script reviews, but customers often mention where they live naturally. A steady stream of reviews mentioning Kissimmee is a genuine relevance signal for Kissimmee.
What not to do
- A profile per city. Duplicate listings, suspension risk, and it takes the original down too.
- A virtual office to claim an address you do not occupy.
- Templated city pages. Same text, swapped name. Treated as doorway pages.
- Twenty cities at once. Five real pages beat twenty thin ones every time.
A realistic expansion sequence
- Phase 1 — dominate your home city. Profile, reviews, service pages. Do not expand until this is genuinely strong.
- Phase 2 — add the two or three adjacent cities where you already have completed jobs and reviews.
- Phase 3 — build local links in those cities. Chamber, sponsorship, community.
- Phase 4 — add service-plus-city pages for your highest-value combinations.
- Phase 5 — repeat outward, one ring at a time.
Each ring takes months. Businesses that try to cover the whole metro in one quarter end up ranking nowhere in particular.
When a second location is genuinely justified
If a city becomes a large enough share of revenue, a real office there — staffed, signed, receiving customers — earns a second profile and its own map pack radius. That is a business decision with a real cost, not an SEO trick, and it is the only legitimate way to have two profiles.
How to measure it
Geo-grid rank tracking. It shows your position from dozens of points across the region as a map, and expansion appears as your strong zone spreading outward. A single search from your office tells you nothing about Sanford.
