Faster than organic. A neglected profile that gets properly built out often improves within two to six weeks. Reaching the top three in a competitive Orlando category usually takes three to six months, and holding it takes ongoing work.
The map pack rewards different things than organic search, which is why the timelines diverge.

Why the map pack moves faster
Organic rankings depend heavily on domain authority and backlinks, which accumulate slowly. Map pack rankings depend on profile completeness, proximity, reviews, and activity — and three of those four are things you can change this week.
Fill in every service, fix the primary category, upload twenty real photos, and start requesting reviews, and you have altered most of your ranking inputs inside a fortnight. Google just needs a crawl cycle or two to register it.
A realistic timeline
- Weeks 1 to 2 — profile build-out. Categories, services, products, photos, description, attributes. Nothing visible yet.
- Weeks 3 to 6 — first movement. Usually most visible for searches close to your address and for the specific services you wrote out.
- Months 2 to 3 — review volume builds, posts and photos establish a pattern, citations get indexed. Your visible radius starts widening.
- Months 3 to 6 — competitive terms move. This is where local backlinks and a proper landing page start to matter.
- Month 6 and beyond — defending the position, expanding radius, adding city pages.
What speeds it up
- An aged, verified profile. Existing trust beats a brand new listing.
- A neglected starting point. Counterintuitive, but a profile at thirty percent completeness has more room to gain than one at eighty.
- Existing customers to ask for reviews. A list of 400 past jobs is the fastest lever available.
- A landing page that matches. The profile does not rank alone.
- Low competition. Suburban markets move much faster than downtown.
What slows it down
- A brand new profile with no history
- Any suspension or pending verification
- Category confusion or duplicate listings
- Competitors with hundreds of reviews and years of activity
- Searching from far outside your service radius and concluding nothing happened
How to measure it properly
Do not judge progress by searching from your phone at the office. Use geo-grid tracking, which checks your rank from dozens of coordinates across the metro and shows the result as a map. Progress usually appears as your strong area spreading outward before your average position changes much.
Also watch the profile insights directly: views, searches, calls, and direction requests. Those move before rankings do, and they are the numbers that actually correlate with revenue.
